Stipendiary Lecturership in Economic Geography

St Catherine’s College proposes to appoint a three-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Economic Geography, with effect from 1 October 2022. The Lecturership will be for one year in the first instance.

The Lecturer will be expected to teach three weighted hours a week averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year (the College operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour). College teaching is in small groups (usually two or three students). The post-holder will be responsible for teaching or assisting in the teaching of the following Preliminary Examination papers (first-year courses): Human Geography, and Geographical Controversies; and the following Final Honour School papers (second- and third-year courses): Space, Place and Society. and Geographical Thought. The post-holder will also contribute to study skills classes and be responsible for advising on and guiding the formulation of undergraduate dissertation topics; and supervising such dissertations, where appropriate. Course details can be found at http://www.geog.ox.ac.uk/undergraduate/ and the course structure at https://www.geog.ox.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course-structure.html. In addition, as a member of the team of Geography tutors, the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the running of Geography in the College, including arranging tuition in Geography, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking College examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates. Informal enquiries about the tutorial teaching requirements may be made to Dr Fiona McConnell (email: fiona.mcconnell@ouce.ox.ac.uk).

The annual stipend for three terms is currently £6,981 for a three-hour Stipendiary Lecturer, and is pensionable. The post-holder will be a member of the Senior Common Room. A three-hour Stipendiary Lecturer is entitled, free of charge, to one lunch and two dinners per week during term-time and during the admissions exercise in December. Teaching/seminar rooms are available for booking within College.
