Stipendiary Lectureship in Music

£15,703 p.a. (current rate)

Merton College proposes to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Music to teach undergraduates for an average of 6 weighted hours per week in full term. The appointment will be for the period 1 October 2022 until 30 September 2023. 

The main duties of the post will be: to teach and/or organise teaching for (i) the Prelims (first-year) papers in Topics I, Foundations in the Study of Music, Musical Analysis, and optional topics as necessary and (ii) the Final Honour School (second- and third-year) papers in Topics II and III, Musical Analysis and Criticism, Musical Thought and Scholarship, and optional topics as necessary; to advise, guide and supervise undergraduate research projects where appropriate; to share in the organisational responsibility for the undergraduate degree in Music; to act as Director of Studies for students studying Music; to provide study skills and pastoral support; and to take part in admissions procedures.

The successful candidate will have completed, or be in the late stages of, a doctorate in Music (preferably with a topic relating to music history post-1750)  and will be able to provide undergraduate teaching for Prelims and Final Honour School students studying Music.
