Working at the University of Oxford can be exciting but also challenging. All of our researchers, academics, and professional services staff contribute to the University’s vision of providing world-class research and education. Delivering that vision requires significant dedication and resilience. At the University we want all staff to thrive in the University environment, whatever their work, personal challenges or background.
Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor
The programme is a key part of the University’s People Strategy and, in accordance with that strategy, it aims to create positive change through a listening culture, a collaborative approach and a holistic view of staff wellbeing.
The programme priorities listed in the Thriving at Oxford Action Plan 2025-28 are based on University staff data and a significant evidence base including National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) research and Health and Safety Executive legislative requirements. As such, the programme is about much more than mental health and includes resources, events and signposting to internal and external training around physical health and safety, working practices, good relationships, financial wellbeing, personal development and more.
Current provision includes:
- Access to an employee assistance programme for 24/7 emotional support and legal and financial advice.
- Mental health awareness training including strategies for self-care and supporting colleagues and students
- Wellbeing workshops delivered by researchers and clinicians, diving into a wide range of topics across mental, emotional and physical wellbeing
- Online resources for staff to access whenever they need.
