Equality and Diversity

Equality, diversity and inclusion are integral to the University of Oxford’s mission: the advancement of learning by teaching and research and its dissemination by every means.

Oxford’s diverse community, and the range of experiences and perspectives that brings, strengthens our research, enhances our teaching, and enables a deeper engagement with the world. We seek to ensure all members of our community feel that they belong, and are supported to achieve their potential.

You can find out more about our efforts to build a more inclusive, equitable and diverse collegiate University in our EDI Strategic Plan.

Equality of Opportunity

With over 18,000 staff from around the world, everyone at the University contributes to creating an inclusive culture.

Entry into employment with the University and progression within employment will be determined only by personal merit and the application of criteria which are related to the duties of each particular post and the relevant salary structure. In all cases, ability to perform the job will be the primary consideration. No applicant shall be discriminated against because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

Visit the Equality and Diversity website to find out about equality-related networks, training, mentoring and support for disabled staff.
